Interpretive Planning and Evaluation Fellowship 2025 is a special type of fellowship offered by The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met), one of the world’s largest and most famous museums. What is the Purpose of This Fellowship?

·         A New Way of Understanding

The purpose of this fellowship is to display exhibits and things in museums in a way that people can easily understand and connect with them.

·         Understanding People’s Responses (Evaluation)

This fellowship teaches how to find out how people feel about museums, what they like, and what they don’t understand. Different research methods are used for this.

·         Museum Planning

It also teaches how to organize new museum exhibits or reorganize old objects to make them more interesting.

What Will You Do in This Fellowship?

  • You will work with museum experts.
  • You will learn how to create new and better things for people (i.e., so that they can learn something new and have fun when they come to the museum).
  • You will research how people learn and understand in museums.
  • You will find ways to make museum exhibits and projects better.

How Long is This Fellowship and When Will It Start?

  • This is a 12-month (one-year) fellowship.
  • It will start on September 2, 2025, and end on August 28, 2026.
  • You will be present at the museum 5 days a week (Monday to Friday). You may also have to work on weekends (if required for research).

What Financial Support (Money) Will You Receive?

  • If you have completed a Master's degree (M.A., M.Phil.) but have not yet completed a Ph.D., you will receive US$47,000 per year.
  • If you have completed a Ph.D., you will receive US$57,000 per year.
  • A research travel allowance of US$6,000 will be provided separately.
  • Health insurance will also be provided.

Who Can Apply? (Eligibility Requirements)

  • You must have a Master's degree (M.A., M.Phil.) or Ph.D. in Art History, Museum Studies, Sociology, Psychology, Education, or any related field.
  • You should have previous experience working in a museum, particularly in making museum objects interesting to people or understanding people's responses (audience research).
  • You should have an understanding of qualitative research methodologies and museum pedagogy.
  • You should have good writing and speaking skills, and you are keen to work in a team.
