EAN (European Academy of Neurology) Research Fellowship 2026

EAN research fellowship 2026 is a special opportunity offered by the EAN (European Academy of Neurology). This fellowship is open to doctors or researchers who want to conduct research on diseases of the brain and nervous system (i.e. Neurology and Neuroscience) and for this, want to go to another European country to learn and gain experience. This is a great opportunity for all young neurologists and researchers who want to conduct research on brain diseases in Europe and further their careers.

What is the main objective?
The aim is to further improve your research, learn new scientific methods, and work with experts from other countries.

Types of Fellowships Offered
There are 2 types of fellowships:

·         Research Training Fellowship:

o    Duration: 6 to 12 months (i.e. half a year to a full year).

o    Purpose: The purpose is to enable you to complete a major research project, such as research for a major degree (PhD), prepare a grant proposal for a major research fund, or write a research paper and publish it in a reputable scientific journal.

o    For whom: This is for young researchers who are just starting their careers and have a major research goal.

·         Research Experience Fellowship:

o    Duration: 3 to 6 months (i.e. 3 months to half a year).

o    Purpose: The purpose is to enable you to gain advanced research experience in a specific field or to learn a specific technique that is not available in your own country.

o    For whom: This is for doctors and experienced researchers who want to specialize in a specific area.

Who can apply? (Eligibility requirements)

·         You must be a member of EAN (either an "RRFS Member" or a "Full Member"). If you are not a member, first become a member of EAN.

·         You must be working in the field of neurology in any European country.

·         You must have carried out your research or training in another European country outside your home country.

·         You must explain how this fellowship will be of great benefit to your department or your future career.

What benefits will you receive? (What will you receive?)

·         Monthly stipend: €2,000 (two thousand euros) per month.

·         Travel expenses: Up to €500 (five hundred euros) will be provided for travel expenses (to and from where you will go).

·         Flexibility: Depending on the approval of your application, the fellowship may start as early as 1 September 2025.

How to apply? (Procedure)

·         Deadline: The deadline for submitting an application is 31 August 2025.

·         What will you need:

o    A completed application form.

o    Your latest CV (detailing your studies and published papers).

o    Proof of your training in neurology (must be at least 2 years of clinical training).

o    Description of your research project (detailing your aim, methods, and work schedule).

o    Letter of recommendation from the Chair of your home department.

o    Letter of recommendation from another neurologist.

o    Letter of acceptance from the Chair or supervisor of the host institution you wish to visit.

o    All documents must be submitted via the online application form.

Selection process
Applications are reviewed by EAN experts (mostly members of the Scientific Panels and Education Committee). They look at the novelty of your project, your CV, your papers, and the reputation of your host institution.

When will the decision be made?
Those selected for the fellowship will be notified by the end of November 2025.
