National Bank of Belgium Research Fellowship 2025 is a special opportunity where the National Bank of Belgium provides money and facilities to experts who live in EU countries and want to do research related to economics or finance. Who can apply? (Requirements)
· EU affiliation: You are a citizen of an EU country or have a legal right to work there.
· Research in the EU: You are currently doing research in an EU country.
· Professorial position: You are a professor (e.g. assistant, associate, full or visiting professor) at any EU university, and you will hold this position during the fellowship.
· Education: You have completed your post-doctoral degree or are at the level of professor.
What benefits will you receive?
· Funding: This fellowship can provide up to €100,000 per year. This money is to cover your living expenses, travel and conference costs. If you take up the fellowship for a shorter period, you will receive a correspondingly lower amount.
· Work with the Bank’s researchers: You will have the opportunity to work closely with the Bank’s own researchers.
· Access to information data: You can use the Bank’s library, data and technology facilities.
· Learning environment: You can attend the Bank’s seminars and share your ideas with key policymakers.
· Publishing a research paper: You must produce at least one research paper that can be published in a special series of the bank and submitted to a reputable research journal.
What types of topics can you research?
This fellowship specifically emphasizes research related to economics and

· Agent Heterogeneity: The economic behavior of different types of people (for example, the buying and selling patterns of the poor and the rich).
· Climate Change: How does climate change affect our economy?
· Digitalization (including AI): How digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) are affecting the economy.
· International Risks: What risks are facing the economy worldwide?

How to apply?
· Required documents:
o You’re most recent CV (full record of your studies and employment).
o Proof of permission to live or work in the EU.
o A Research Proposal: This should be one page long and should explain what you want to research and which research topics the bank is involved in.
o A letter from your university stating that you are indeed a professor there.
o Letters of Recommendation (optional).
o A proposal for a workshop or event you would like to organize during the fellowship (optional).
o Indicate how long you would like the fellowship to last (e.g. 6 or 12 months, which could also be spread over 2-3 years).

Selection process
Your applications will be reviewed by a committee consisting of experts from the Central Bank of Belgium and other European central banks. They will look in particular at your research proposal (its relevance, novelty and policy relevance), your CV (your experience and academic record) and your published research papers.
When will the decision be made?The decision of those selected for the fellowship will be announced in October 2025.
