Kwangwon University Types of Scholarships 2026
Below are the list of scholarships that are offered by the university to the undergraduate students:
a. Scholarship in the entry semester (when you enroll for the first time):
This depends on your language proficiency:
Default Scholarships:
· 30% fee waiver if your English test score is TOEFL iBT 71 / IELTS 5.5 / NEW TEPS 326 or higher, or you are a citizen of a country where English is the native/official language.
Korean Track Scholarship:
· 50% fee waiver if you are a graduate of the Korean Language Center of Kwangwon University.
· 70% fee waiver if TOPIK level 3.
· 80% fee waiver if TOPIK level 4 or higher.
English Track Scholarships:
· 50% fee waiver at TOEFL iBT 86 / IELTS 6.5 / NEW TEPS 388.
· 70% fee waiver at TOEFL iBT 97 / IELTS 7.5 / NEW TEPS 438.
· 80% fee waiver on TOEFL iBT 112 / IELTS 8.5 / NEW TEPS 498.
b. Scholarship in the semesters after admission (when you started studying):
It depends on your marks (GPA) of the previous semester (maximum GPA is 4.5):
· 4.3 Or above GPA: 100% fee waiver (full fee waiver).
· 4.0 Or above ~ less than 4.3 GPA: 70% fee waiver.
· 3.5 Or above ~ less than 4.0 GPA: 50% fee waiver.
· 3.0 Or above ~ less than 3.5 GPA: 30% fee waiver.
Important:
· These scholarships will only be available if you have a TOPIK level of 4 or higher (Korean track) or TOEFL iBT 71 / IELTS 5.5 / NEW TEPS 326 (English track).
· Those who are from an English native country will only be eligible for the scholarship if they submit their English test score.
· The scholarship amount may change from semester to semester.
· If a student becomes a Korean citizen, he/she will not be eligible for this foreign student scholarship.

Kwangwon University Undergraduate Scholarships 2026 Eligibility
· Nationality: The applicant and his/her parents must not be Korean citizens. If someone has dual citizenship and is not Korean, they can also apply.
· Freshmen (first-time university students): You have completed (or will complete) 12 years of education (primary and secondary education) equivalent to Korean primary, middle, and high school, whether from Korea or your own country.
· Sophomore Transfer: You must have completed 1 year at a 4-year university, or graduated from a community college (at least 25 credits).
· Junior Transfer: You must have completed 2 years or more at a 4-year university, or graduated from a community college (at least 60 credits).
Language Requirement for Korean Track (if you will study in Korean):
For freshmen you must have met one of the following requirements:
· A score of Level 3 or higher on the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK).
· A score of Level 3 or higher from the Korean Language Center of Kwangwon University.
· A score of Level 3 or higher from the Korean Language Center of another university.
· A score of Level 3 or higher from Kwangwon University's own Korean Language Test.
Language Requirement for English Track (if you will study in English):
For new students you must meet one of the following requirements:
· You must be a citizen of a country where English is the native or official language.
· You must have an English proficiency test score: TOEFL iBT 71, IELTS 5.5, or NEW TEPS 326 or higher.

· Permission to request information from the university: Print online.
· High school transcript and degree: (Notarized)

· Community college/university transcript: (For transfer only - Notarized). It must be in Korean or English and must list all credits.
· Certificate of the most recent education: Such as proof of high school or college degree.

· Alien registration card for foreigners residing in Korea: If in Korea.
· Certificate of family relationship: such as birth certificate or family relationship certificate. (Notarized copy of family registry for Chinese nationals).

· Bank statement: Certificate from a bank showing at least 20,000,000 Korean Won (KRW).
· Language proficiency certificate: TOPIK score or English test score such as TOEFL/IELTS.
· Application fee: 130,000 Korean Won.
